Does HiBob use customer data to train AI models?

No. HiBob and its AI providers never use customer data to train AI models. We have a strict zero retention policy.

What data does Bob AI use?

Bob AI uses only the data required to answer your request or complete an action, based on: The information you provide, your role and permissions, and the features and modules enabled by your organization.

Is Bob AI activity shared or mixed across customers?

No. Each customer’s AI activity is fully isolated. HiBob uses customer-specific identifiers to ensure complete data separation. Your use of Bob AI is not bundled, aggregated, or shared with other customers—one of the key requirements for enterprise-grade HR AI software.

Can Bob AI access data I don’t normally have permission to see?

No. Bob AI respects the same permission layers as the rest of Bob. It cannot access or surface any data you are not authorized to view.

Can we control which AI features are enabled in Bob for our own company?

Yes. All AI capabilities are fully configurable. Account admins can enable or disable AI features at any time through the AI Settings page.

Can Bob AI take actions without my approval?

No. Bob AI always requires a human in the loop to approve actions that affect company data. Any write action requires explicit user confirmation, follows existing permission rules, and can only be performed by authorized users. This ensures AI for HR professionals remains assistive—not autonomous.

Is Bob AI considered an automated decision-making tool?

No. Bob AI does not make decisions on behalf of your organization. It provides insights, summaries, and recommendations, but people always own the final decisions—especially when it comes to employees, compensation, or sensitive HR actions.

Are there questions Bob AI won’t answer?

Yes. Bob AI will not answer questions about data you’re not permitted to access or recommend actions that could directly impact employees without human judgment.

Frequently asked questions

The HiBob MCP Server is a hosted integration that allows AI assistants and MCP-compatible clients to securely connect to your HiBob (Bob) account. It enables AI agents to retrieve HR data and perform actions — like looking up employee information or managing time off — using natural language.

The HiBob MCP Server supports any agent or client that can connect to an MCP server over a URL. This includes popular tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and VSCode.

Authentication is handled via a Bob service user and a Base64-encoded authorization token passed as a Basic Auth header. The AI assistant can only see and act on data that the service user has been granted permission to access — no more, no less.

Everything the AI can access is governed by the permission group assigned to your Bob service user. You can manage access to sensitive fields and define the audience for the service user directly from Bob’s permission settings.

The MCP Server currently supports three core areas: Employee Data (find employees, view profile fields, create or update records), Time Off (check who’s out, view balances, and submit requests), and Tasks (view open or assigned tasks for employees).

Not yet. Currently, access is limited to Bob service users only. Employee-level access via OAuth is not supported at this time.

You’ll need to provide your AI agent with two details: the server URL (https://api.hibob.com/ai-mcp-public/mcp/public) and your Base64-encoded authorization token. Once connected, the MCP server will appear as available in your agent’s UI.

You can use natural language prompts like “Who’s out today?”, “Find all employees in the R&D department in London and show their name, email, and start date,” or “Submit vacation time off for April 12–16, 2026.” The AI translates these into the appropriate Bob API actions.
